Offensive lines better be ready for a fight.
There’s no way that you could pin all of Wyoming’s defensive prowess last fall on just one person, but Carl Granderson’s emergence as the Mountain West’s top defensive lineman is definitely one of the better arguments you could make. It’s why we voted the defensive end as the number one Cowboy, and the best at his position, on this year’s list on of the conference’s best players.
Granderson had been on his way to a very good 2016 campaign before tearing his ACL six games into the year, but he showed no ill effects from that serious injury last fall. He led the Mountain West with 16 tackles for loss and finished second with 8.5 sacks, but he also forced two fumbles and grabbed two interceptions — one of which earned him a finalist nod for the coveted Piesman Trophy — and easily made his way onto the first-team all-Mountain West squad.
He heads into 2018 as a senior and has Wyoming fans buzzing about what he might do for an encore. You can be sure, however, that Mountain West foes aren’t looking forward to finding out.
