Is Ursua the most explosive receiver in the conference?
This year’s list of the Mountain West’s 50 best players heads to the Hawaiian islands for the first time today. Coincidentally, it also turns to the athlete who did more in less time than anyone else on this year’s list, Hawaii wide receiver John Ursua, who comes in at #20.
Ursua’s sophomore year lasted just six games but, hoo boy, those six games. He set a blistering pace for the Warriors by catching 47 passes (with a catch rate just under 75%) for 667 yards and five touchdowns, all of which were the best figures on the team.
Though Nick Rolovich’s offense is undergoing a reset to more of a run-and-shoot look, and provided he has a clean bill of health, Ursua should once again be among the conference’s most exciting players to watch whenever the ball is in his hands.
