Allison will leave a few marks this fall.

Mountain West Wire’s countdown of the conference’s top players has made plenty of room for Fresno State’s young and revitalized defense, but there’s a strong argument that no one had a bigger impact on the Bulldogs’ dramatic turnaround than linebacker Jeffrey Allison, who comes in at #11.

Allison started from day one and immediately became an anchor for the front seven, collecting 126 tackles, 5.5 tackles for loss, two sacks and two forced fumbles en route to first-team all-Mountain West honors. He racked up double-digit tackles in four of the team’s last six games, including the Mountain West championship and the Hawaii Bowl.

The results? Fresno State improved from 5.72 yards per play allowed in 2016 to 4.86 YPP on the season and just 4.66 YPP in conference play. In addition, the Bulldogs improved from 4.95 yards per carry allowed on the ground to 3.43 YPC.

Now a junior, the 6-foot, 247-pound Allison will continue to man the middle of one of the Group of 5’s toughest defenses and, perhaps more importantly, insists that he’ll prove us wrong about his ranking in 2018.
