Aztecs looking for a bowl win!
San Diego State is going back to Texas for bowl season and really wants to come away with a win and not have a performance they had last year where they lost 42-35 to Army in the Armed Forces Bowl.
This time around the Aztecs are taking on an Ohio team out of the MAC who finished 8-4 during the regular season. Just like we have done in prior bowl games we will make the case for non-SDSU and non-Ohio fans to tune into this game.
San Diego State should be healthy
The Aztecs had a bunch of injuries during the year with quarterback Christian Chapman out for a few weeks with a broken collarbone and also running back Juwan Washington banged up causing him to miss time.
Both have seen increased playing time over the final few weeks of the regular season, but add in the extra weeks of rest after the regular season finale over Thanksgiving weekend and this team should be free from injuries.
Offense vs. Defense
San Diego State is known for its defense behind Rocky Long and his 3-3-5 scheme he has used for decades. This unit is always a top unit not just in the Mountain West but also the country. It has slowed quite a few offenses this year and held Boise State to just 13 points earlier this year.
The Ohio Bobcats will be a tough test as they score 41.2 points per game. The Bobcats are led by QB Nathan Rourke who can run and pass. He has completed 154-for-252 passes for 2,228 yards, 22 touchdowns, just seven interceptions and he has 13 rushing scores on 816 yards.
Suspensions to key players
There are three San Diego State players who are out for this game in left guard Daishawn Dixon, senior defensive tackle Noble Hall Jr. and senior safety Marc Ellis. Those three were suspended earlier in the week for a violation of team rules.
This does not even include offensive lineman Tyler Roemer who has declared for the NFL Draft and no longer with the team.
Both sides of the lines will be using backups to make things happen against this Bobcats team.
