A Late Push Sent Wyoming To Its Third Victory On The Season
The Cowboys remain perfect with a win in the Cayman Classic
Wyoming is 3-0 for the second consecutive season
Wyoming used a 27-15 run to top South Dakota State 77-65 in the first round of the Cayman Islands Classic.
Hayden Dalton had 18 points, Justin James scored 16 and Lou Adams added 14 coming off the bench as the Cowboys moved to 3-0 on the season with a neutral site win.
The game was tied at 50 apiece with 9:36 remaining, but for the third straight game, Wyoming came up big down the stretch en route to the 12-point victory. Two Alex Aka Gorski three-pointers in a 32-second span extended Wyoming’s lead from 66-61 to 72-61, effectively putting the game out of reach for South Dakota State.
One of the country’s elite players, South Dakota State forward Mike Daum, was kept in check by the Cowboy defense. Daum had a forgettable day, going 2-12 from the field including 1-6 from three-point distance. He finished with 10 points, his lowest point total since January 18, 2017. Reed Tellinghuisen had 16 points for South Dakota State, the most for the Jackrabbits.
Wyoming advances in the Cayman Classic and will play Louisiana-Lafayette after the Ragin’ Cajuns upset Iowa earlier on Monday. The winner on Tuesday will play in Wednesday’s championship game.
