Utah State Played Well, But Eventually Fell To Nationally-Ranked Gonzaga

Three Aggie players finished in double figures
Utah State was unable to pull off a near-impossible feat of topping Gonzaga in Spokane, as the Aggies fell to #16 Gonzaga 79-66 Saturday night.
Utah State, operating without star guard Koby McEwen who is sidelined with an ankle injury, fought closely with Gonzaga for 30+ minutes before folding late. The Aggies came out on fire and led the ‘Zags by eight in the first half, but failed to convert a field goal attempts in the final five and a half minutes of the period, trailing Gonzaga 45-42 at the break.
Sam Merrill’s and-one cut the Gonzaga lead to 60-57 with 10:27 left in the game, but the Bulldogs used a 17-1 run to put the game out of the reach for the injury-riddled Aggies.
Merrill led the Aggies with 19 points, four rebounds and six assists, while DeAngelo Isby added 13 points and Diogo Brito had 11.
Killian Tillie was the only player to score 20 points, and three other Bulldogs finished in double figures.
Next up for Utah State (2-2) is a road matchup at Portland State at the Veterans Memorial Coliseum in Portland, Oregon.
