Hutchison Knocked In A Game-Winner With Three Seconds Left To Down UTEP
The game, which was played in Myrtle Beach, South Carolina, had no shortage of excitement down the stretch
Hutchison had an awful shooting night, but delivered when it mattered most
Even when you think he’s off, he’s on.
Chandler Hutchison connected on just one of his first 12 field goal attempts Thursday, and then knocked down his last two shots to send Boise State to a dramatic 58-56 victory over UTEP in the Puerto Rico Tip-Off quarterfinals.
The game was scheduled to take place in Puerto Rico, its usual site, but due to hurricanes and inclement weather this fall, the event was forced to be moved to Myrtle Beach, South Carolina. The eight-team field will participate in three games apiece at the HTC Center in Conway, South Carolina.
Boise State started the game off hot before cooling considerably in the second half. The Broncos led 31-22 at the break, but trailed by as many as nine with 3:23 left in the game. The Miners took a 54-45 lead but made just one basket over the final three minutes. BSU outscored UTEP 13-2 in the final 203 seconds.
Three Broncos finished in double figures. Marcus Dickinson had 13 points and Chandler Hutchison and Alex Hobbs both added 10 apiece.
UTEP’s Keith Frazier led all scorers with 22 points. He went 7-16 from the field and also had 10 rebounds for the Miners.
Boise State will take on Illinois State in the semifinals tomorrow at the HTC Center. The game will take place at 10:00am PT and will be broadcast on ESPN2.
