The leading returning Aggie scorer this season, McEwen will have to step into a larger role
Utah State sophomore guard Koby McEwen is #3 in the MWC Wire Basketball Countdown.
Fresh off an impressive freshman season, the Toronto native took home the conference’s Freshman of the Year Award after averaging 14.4 points, 5.0 rebounds, 3.0 assists and 1.1 steals+blocks per game. He ranked in the top 200 nationally in true shooting percentage, free throw rate, and three-point percentage, per KenPom.com.
McEwen came to Logan as one of the highest-rated recruits from the class of 2016. He appeared in ESPN’s top 100 recruiting list and also competed in the Dick’s National Tournament and the Adidas Nation tournament. He’s received a great deal of national pub this summer, and the media named him to the preseason all-conference first team.
With seniors Jalen Moore and Shane Rector graduated and returning center Norbert Janicek out for season, McEwen will need to produce at an even bigger level as a sophomore. Look for McEwen and fellow back court teammate Sam Merrill to form the best guard duo in the MWC this season.
